This is my second time going here...we are from out of town but my wife grew up here so we visit several times per year.  Great food....extremely good service.  Very personable.   Good menu for a diner.

A scenic under one hour drive northwest of Springfield toward Stockton Lake where lunch on the square is a throwback to the era of bobby socks & bouffants and, perhaps, bougainvilleas! This across from the courthouse nondescript diner has an ICE CREAM counter with all the desserts that populate an old fashioned Parlor. The owner is also the head short order cook & super friendly to all--not just to the well-known locals who socialize here everyday. And they are friendly too to odd out of towners! Black & white tiled floors & green vinyl booths long for the weekends when, no doubt, the high schoolers hang out & practice their dating skills! Only wished they'd have  had a real working juke box to spin America's Top 40 Bandstand Hits. It's all about the food at this establishment. Hot & homemade (for the most part). I enjoyed a PHILLY CHEESESTEAK HOAGIE ($7.99) with accent on the cheesy cradling  perfectly sautéed white onion & green pepper--veggies were still a bit snappy crisp & mercilessly not milquetoast! The accompanying ONION RINGS are really onion tanglers piled high where you need a fork to eat them just like spaghetti. Ask for their ranch dip & add a few dashes of Tabasco. THE BREADED CHICKEN TENDER SANDWICH was light & crispy with no trace of greasy! A sweet smiling young lady served us politely! The long running 11 year old THAT PLACE is no frills, fast & hot, comfort food that really hits the spot!

Phenomenal diner with a soda fountain. I had the homemade cheese potato soup with 1/2 Reuben. I should have ordered the full size Reuben as it was the best I've ever had! Homemade onion rings split with the hubby was a perfect side. The cherry limeade was also excellent. Great customer service and very friendly locals. If you find yourself in the area, it is definitely worth a detour!
